Constructs & Glitches, The Future Perfect, NYC 2016

Constructs & Glitches was a solo show at The Future Perfect that launched during NYC Design Week 2016.

"Constructs" are a series of objects built systematically; divided, disarranged, and joined to form structures in furniture scale.  The collection is inspired by Constructivism as abstraction, material, and spatial presence are defining factors.  However, the idea of function is not avoided.  While manually disarranging these forms in CAD, I stumbled upon program errors or impossibilities.  These "glitches" are things I have encountered many times, but usually fix by finding work-arounds.  This time I decided to embrace and exploit these glitches as they were the automatic version of constructs.  Together, the works represent both intentional and unintentional distortion in functional and non-functional forms.
